Gilbert Softener Loops
Adding the plumbing loop and drain a softener needs, for homes that were not built with one.
A softener loop is a section of the main water line that comes up in the garage, usually as two capped pipes or a short loop, so water treatment equipment can be connected without cutting into the rest of the plumbing. Many Gilbert homes were built with one. Older homes and some custom homes were not.
If your home does not have a loop, we cut into the main line where it enters the house, add the loop with shutoff valves, and plan a drain for the softener's regeneration water. We also make sure outdoor hose bibs and irrigation can stay on unsoftened water.
With the loop in place, any system can be connected: a softener, a salt-free conditioner or a whole-house filter.

We locate where water enters the house and pick the cleanest spot for the loop.

The loop is added with shutoff valves so equipment can be serviced later.

A softener needs a drain for regeneration water. We plan a code-appropriate drain with an air gap.

Hose bibs and irrigation are kept on unsoftened water where the plumbing allows.
Look in the garage near the water heater or where the main line enters for two capped pipes or a short loop of pipe coming out of the wall. If you are not sure, we check during the estimate.
Sometimes a small section of drywall in the garage is opened to reach the line. We tell you before the work starts.
Softeners are usually installed in the garage. Outdoor installs need protection from sun and weather, which we can discuss.
We set the loop up so irrigation and hose bibs stay on hard water where the existing plumbing allows.
